Water transportation is very important to Peterbourgh's history. A wonder of engineering is the Peterborough Lift Lock, reported as the world's highest hydraulic lift lock. Peterborough Airport has two runways and many recent upgrades. The main runway is 7000 ft. paved and lit, and the crosswind runway 2000 ft paved. Toronto's Pearson International Airport is 140km (90mi) from Peterborough.
